Rahul
Satija, 19, is a senior violinist in his third year as concertmaster of
the Duke Symphony Orchestra. He currently studies with Eric Pritchard
and past teachers include Zina Gendel of the Washington Conservatory of
Music in his hometown of Potomac, MD. He is a majoring in music and
biology while minoring in mathematics.
Rahul has been the recipient of various awards for both and solo and
ensemble performance. In 2001, he appeared on the nationally broadcast
radio show From The Top as a violinist in Trio Verano. He's won first
prize in competitions including the Russian-American International
Festival of Young Virtuosos, and the Durham Symphony Concerto
Competition. Additionally, he has performed in multiple orchestral
concerts at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC and Carnegie Hall in New
York. Over the past two years Rahul has also received scholarship awards
from the AJ Fletcher Music Foundation, the Barry M. Goldwater
Foundation, and the United States Dept. of Homeland Security. After
graduation, he hopes to attend graduate school and pursue a career as a
computational biologist.
Rahul plays on a copy of the Stradivarius Nightengale violin made by
Thomas Croen in 2004.
